Luna the panther and Venza stay with Vova

The Unexpected Visitor

The jungle had been unusually quiet since the last crow-chasing adventure, and Luna the panther was enjoying a rare moment of peace, sprawled across a sunlit rock. Nearby, Venza the chipmunk was busy burying (and immediately digging up) a stash of acorns, muttering to herself about “optimal nut security.”

Both of their heads whipped toward the sound. Something—or someone—was moving through the underbrush.

Luna’s muscles tensed, her golden eyes narrowing. Venza, on the other hand, vibrated with excitement.

“Ooooh! New friend? New enemy? New snack delivery?” she squeaked, darting up a tree for a better look.

A figure emerged—a boy, no older than ten, with messy brown hair and wide, curious eyes. He carried a woven basket and wore a tunic that had seen better days.

Venza gasped. “HUMAN! Luna, it’s a human! Do we eat it? Befriend it? Steal its snacks?!

Luna flicked her tail. “We do none of those things.”

The boy froze when he saw them. For a long moment, no one moved.

Then, he smiled.

“Hi,” he said. “I’m Vova.”

The Unlikely Roommates

As it turned out, Vova wasn’t just any human—he was a runaway.

“My village thinks the jungle is dangerous,” he explained, sitting cross-legged near Luna while Venza inspected his basket (and promptly stole a berry). “But I like it here. It’s better than… well, there.”

Luna studied him. She’d seen humans before, but they usually carried weapons or fear. Vova carried neither.

Venza, meanwhile, had already declared herself his new best friend. “You’re way cooler than the village humans,” she said, patting his knee. “Also, do you have more berries?”

Vova laughed. “Maybe. If you help me find a place to stay.”

Luna sighed. She knew where this was going.

Panther, Chipmunk, and Boy—Oh My!

And so, Luna’s quiet jungle life gained a new roommate.

Vova built a small shelter between the roots of an ancient tree. Venza “helped” by mostly getting in the way, chattering nonstop about “structural integrity” (she had no idea what that meant). Luna supervised, occasionally nudging branches into place with her massive paws.

At night, they gathered around a small fire (carefully controlled—Luna was not a fan of wildfires). Vova told stories of his village, Venza interjected with dramatic reenactments, and Luna listened, her tail flicking in amusement.

It was… nice.

(Not that Luna would ever admit it.)

Trouble in Paradise

Of course, it couldn’t last.

One morning, the crows returned—but this time, they weren’t alone.

Luna!” Krik cawed. “The humans are coming! With nets!

Vova paled. “They’re looking for me.”

Luna’s fur bristled. Venza let out a tiny, furious squeak.

“No way!” the chipmunk declared. “You’re our human now! We’re not giving you back!”

Luna nodded. “Then we hide him.”

The Great Jungle Escape

What followed was a game of hide-and-seek unlike any other.

  • Venza distracted the searchers by pelting them with nuts.

  • Luna herded Vova through hidden paths only a panther knew.

  • Vova did his part by not screaming when a spider the size of his face dropped onto his shoulder.

Finally, the humans gave up, muttering about “wild animals” and “too much sun.”

That night, the trio celebrated with stolen village bread (courtesy of Venza’s “borrowing” skills) and the satisfaction of a battle won.

Epilogue: Home

As the fire crackled, Vova smiled. “So… can I stay?”

Luna flicked an ear. “You’re terrible at hunting. And you snore.”

Venza nodded. “Also, you still haven’t paid rent in berries.”

A pause.

“…But yes,” Luna finished. “You can stay.”

And so, the jungle gained its strangest family yet.

THE END. (For now.)
